Launched in December 2007, IISD's major campaign to raise CDN $5 million in the private sector, is appropriately entitled "Bridging the Gap between Knowing and Doing."

Between knowing and doing, there lies a gap—a crucial gap that is a river of indecision capable of carrying worthy ideas and programs far downstream. Crossing it requires a solid connection—a bridge constructed of equal parts of expertise, experience and practice buttressed by pillars of perseverance and optimism. True sustainable development demands the successful bridging of this gap through enlightened, proactive policies and a realistic plan of action to bring about vital global change.

Since January 2008, IISD Capital Campaign fundraising efforts have been enhanced by strong support from staff, associates, Board members and youth internship program alumni. Pledges and donations continue to arrive daily from numerous organizations and individuals throughout Canada and around the world.

"We're showing the world that IISD is an organization that cares about the work it does and that we do, indeed, lead by example," said Charles Loewen, Campaign Chair. "And in return, the world is showing IISD just how vital and valued our work in sustainable development is."

"Based on these and other healthy signs from the corporate community, foundations and beyond, we've developed detailed case statements and proposals to market our campaign to the widest possible audience," said Sue Barkman, Director of Fund Development and Community Relations.

Over the next two years, the capital campaign is seeking funding for these four areas of work:

Climate Change and Energy

Climate Change and EnergyOur Climate Change campaign goal is CDN $2.5 million. These funds will enhance and enrich the efforts of IISD's Climate Change and Energy program, which promotes policy responses required to move economies towards a low-carbon energy future and prepare for the impacts of climate change.
