About IISD
Established in 1990, the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) is a Canadian-based non-partisan, charitable organization specializing in research, analysis and information exchange. Through our head office in Winnipeg and our branch offices in Ottawa, New York and Geneva, we apply human ingenuity to improve the well-being of the world's environment, economy and society by actively promoting change towards sustainable development.
The Institute is dedicated to ongoing communication of our findings as we engage decision-makers in government, business, non-government organizations and other sectors in development and implementation of policies that are beneficial to the world's economy, environment and social well-being.

IISD is founded on the principle that the greatest societal good comes from connecting economic, social and environmental goals. It is respected by international sustainability experts who rank the Institute as the most effective sustainable development research organization in the world. In its ongoing pursuit of sustainable development, IISD promotes open and effective international negotiation processes. As an organization, we believe in the importance of building our own institutional capacity while helping our partner organizations in the developing world to excel.
