When You Support IISD's Community Initiatives Fund

You Support these Vital Programs and Projects

Chief among the projects of our Community Initiatives Fund is the development of a system of community indicators for Winnipeg, Canada. In partnership with United Way Winnipeg, this Community Indicators System (CIS) will measure and report on the progress of the quality of life for Winnipeg's population. And as it does so, the CIS will compile and coordinate the research needed to build capacity, address the city's challenges and seize opportunities.

  • The Canadian Sustainability Indicators Network (CSIN)
Created in 2003, CSIN originated with Environment Canada's National Indicators and Reporting Office and IISD's Measurement and Assessment Program. Since then, it has played a key role in the progress toward sustainable development by advancing best practices in measurement and indicator systems across Canada and beyond.

Today, with over 1,200 members, CSIN connects practitioners with international, national, provincial, regional and local communities. Every day, the Network accomplishes this through listserv communications, virtual learning events, online discussions and face-to-face meetings.

  • IISD's Measurement and Assessment Program
Since 1994, IISD's Measurement and Assessment team has been sharing its expertise and experience with organizations the world over. They build capacity to establish integrated monitoring, assessment and reporting systems and sustainable development strategies that make use of them.

The M+A team also contributes to improving governance, monitoring performance and assessing advances made toward sustainable development. This way, society as a whole can ensure that its progress remains on track today and far into the future.

  • First Nations Communities in Manitoba
Our Community Initiatives Fund also supports the development of a community indicators system designed to build the capacity of First Nations communities in Manitoba. This is a grassroots process to raise awareness of concerns, and to assist in priority setting, planning and resource allocation. It reflects issues of First Nations people, and is designed to achieve positive change far into the future.
